Program Overview

Parents:  

We have been granted gym space in the elementary schools to run the in-house basketball program. 

The gym space we received is for Monday to Saturday. We have been informed that one parent will be allowed at games and clinics on Saturdays. As of today, parents and siblings will not be allowed in the schools during practices. 

This year we will need parent volunteers to monitor the arrival and exit of all teams to make sure all guidelines will be followed.  

The goal of the Lakeville North Boys In-House Basketball program is to provide an opportunity for boys to learn the fundamentals of basketball,  teamwork, and good sportsmanship.  We strive to provide equal playing time across all positions with age-appropriate rules & expectations.

Lakeville North Boys Basketball Association (LNBBA) & Lakeville South Boys Basketball Association (LSBBA) are committed to providing safe and healthy spaces for all our members.  To ensure we have a safe and healthy spaces, we have developed the following COVID-19 Preparedness Plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  LNBBA & LSBBA coaches, athletes, volunteers, parents and officials are all responsible for implementing this plan. 

Our goal is to mitigate the potential for transmission of COVID-19 in our LNBBA & LSBBA spaces and community and requires full cooperation among our coaches, athletes, volunteers, parents and participants.  Only through this cooperative effort can we establish and maintain the safety and health of all persons in our community. 

LNBBA & LSBBA coaches, volunteers and members have our full support in enforcing the provisions of this policy.  We encourage our coaches, volunteers and participants to ask questions, raise safety and health concerns and offer suggestions related to the plan and its implementation. 

Our COVID-19 Preparedness Plan follows State of Minnesota Industry Guidelines developed by the State of Minnesota, which is based upon:  The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines, Federal Occupations Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards related to safety and health precautions required in response to COVID-19 and applicable executive orders. 

This plan also takes into consideration the facility guidelines and requirements from District 194.  LNBBA & LSBBA will adjust programs, as needed to comply with all mandatory orders and best practices recommended by these organizations. 

 

General Emphasis

  1.  Promoting a safe environment. 
  2. Prompt identification and isolation of sick participants. 
  3. Masking at all times even during all practices and games. 
  4. Minimizing opportunities for mixing groups. 
  5. Encouraging and reinforcing social norms and health etiquette. 
  6. Promoting health checks and screening of participants and staff. 
  7. Ensuring policies and safety measures are considerate of staff, volunteers and participants at highest risk of complications. 
  8. Reinforcing safety measures during basketball activities, on and off the court. 

 

General Guidelines

  1.  General
    1. No parent, guardian, family member, sibling or friend will be allowed inside the facility for tryouts, or team practices. 
    2. Participants must practice social distancing, maintaining six feet of distance from anyone outside their household, whenever possible, during LNBBA & LSBBA sponsored activities. 
    3. Athletes, coaches and volunteers must conduct a symptom assessment including a temperature check at home prior to any LNBBA & LSBBA sponsored activity (ie: practice or tournament or game) and stay home if experiencing symptoms.
    4. Participants will use hand sanitizer upon arrival to any LNBBA & LSBBA sponsored activities. 
  2. Face Coverings
    1. Athletes and officials must wear face coverings at all time before, during and after the game. Face coverings must be worn during practices and games according to the MDH guidelines.   
    2. Coaches, Board Members, volunteers and spectators must wear face coverings at all times, no exceptions. 
    3. Everyone must provide their own face covering which meets MDH guidelines, including covering the mouth and nose completely. 
  3. Equipment
    1. Participants are required to bring their own water bottles.  They will be allowed to fill up their water bottles using the filling stations if they are operational. 
    2. All athletes will only use the basketballs in the coaches bag or their own only and will not share with other teams. 

Screening

  1.  Athletes, coaches, volunteers, and officials must self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and stay home if experiencing any symptoms. 
    1. Do you have a fever of 100 F (37.8 C) or above?
    2. Do you have a new or worsening cough today?
    3. Do you have any of these other symptoms?
      1. Trouble breathing, shortness of breath, or severe wheezing?
      2. Loss of smell or taste or change in taste?
      3. Chills
      4. Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
      5. Muscle aches
      6. Sore throat
      7. Headache
      8. Cough

 

  1. Athletes, coaches, volunteers and officials who appear to have symptoms or who become sick during LNBBA & LSBBA activity will be immediately separated from others and sent home. 
  2. Spectators will be screened prior to entrance to an activity, using health questions and/or temperature scan. 

 

When to Stay Home

  1.  Participants are required to notify LNBBA & LSBBA Board if they or an immediate family member is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.  For LNBBA please contact Josh Kutzler – President of LNBBA and for LSBBA please contact healthquestions@lakevillesouthbasketball.org Participants are required to continue to communicate with LNBBA & LSBBA Board with any developments of those symptoms. 
  2. Participants who have any symptoms of COVID-19 should follow CDC/MDH recommended guidelines and must not attend LNBBA & LSBBA activities for the required  period of time under the CDC/MDH guidelines.  
  3. Participants who are well but have a sick family member at home with COVID-19 symptoms for confirmed COVID-19 should follow MDH or other health official orders and not attend LNBBA & LSBBA activities for the required  period of time under the CDC/MDH guidelines.   
  4. Participants who are under COVID-19 testing protocols must not attend and LNBBA & LSBBA activities until cleared by MDH and health officials with note given to LNBBA & LSBBA Board with clearance. 

 

COVID-19 Positive Case Reporting

  1.  Participants are required to notify your specific association, for LNBBA it will be Josh Kutzler – President of LNBBA and for LSBBA please contact healthquestions@lakevillesouthbasketball.org , if they or an immediate family member has received a positive COVID-19 test results or as been ordered to quarantine by MDH or other health officials. 
  2. If a positive case is reported, we will notify MDH immediately by email, providing activity attendance report for the team and any opponents up to 2 days prior to a positive test. 
  3. The Board of Directors will communicate that a participant has tested positive to the affected team and to anyone else that is suspected to be exposed. 
  4. The Board of Directors can make a determination to suspend or terminate team activities without guidance from MDH based on information provided by the case.  Athletes may choose not to participate during this time without penalty. 
  5. If you are quarantined from school this means you are also quarantined from basketball.

 

 

Communication of Plan

  1. This COVID Preparedness Plan will be communicated to all LNBBA & LSBBA coaches, athletes, families and board members on or before the first day of organized activity. 
  2. Any updates to this plan or changes will be communicated with all participants involved using email. 
  3. Regular communications will occur to the coaches, officials, athletes and parents, stating they should stay home should they experience any COVID-19 symptoms. 
  4. LNBBA & LSBBA will inform MDH and fellow participants of any possible exposure to COVID-19 while maintaining confidentiality as much as possible, as required by state and local privacy laws. 

 

Games

  1. Facilities 
    1. LNBBA & LSBBA will use the Lakeville Elementary Gyms. 
    2. Athletes should not arrive more than 10 minutes prior to their scheduled game. 
    3. Athletes will enter and exit through designated entrances per ISD 194 guidance. 
    4. Athletes will enter and exit the facility in a timely manner and not congregate outside or inside the facility. 
    5. Athletes must exit the facility immediately following their game. 

 

  1. Sanitization
    1. All athletes, evaluators and coaches should wash their hands before and after game. 
    2. Sanitizer will be provided at each gym along with a spray bottle on a table outside the gym entrance.
    3. Referees and coaches will sanitize shared basketballs and any other shared equipment as often as reasonably possible during the activity. 

 

  1. Activities
    1. Teams will know before arrival which gym they are in and will proceed to that gym once the coach is on site and all enter as a team 
    2. There will be no more than 50 athletes/spectators on a court at any one time at JFK Elementary, Cherry View Elementary, Eastview Elementary, and Christina Huddleston Elementary gyms.
    3. Lakeview Elementary will utilize 3 courts so there will be 50 athletes/coaches on the first 2 courts with a space of 12 ft off the court, the spectators will be socially distanced to allow for another 25 spectators.
    4. Athletes must refrain from unnecessary physical contact outside normal game play with teammates, opponents and referees. 

Team Practices

  1. Facilities/Drop off & Pick up
    1. LNBBA & LSBBA will use the Lakeville Elementary gyms 
    2. Athletes should not arrive more than 10 minutes before the start of their scheduled practice. 
    3. Athletes must wait to enter the practice facility until their coach is present. 
    4. Athletes and coaches will enter facility together. 
    5. Athletes and coaches will not enter the gym until the previous practice is over and the athletes have fully exited. 
    6. Athletes must leave the gyms immediately following practice. 

 

  1. Sanitization
    1. Coaches and players must use the sanitizer before and after practice. 
    2. Coaches must refrain from high fives, handshakes and other physical contact with the athletes and other coaches. 
    3. Coaches must sanitize shared basketballs and any other shared equipment before and after each practice.   

 

  1. Coaches
    1. Maximum of 2 coaches per team. 
    2. Coaches must ensure that their team remains on their designated courts at all times during scheduled practices.  This will help prevent intermixing with athletes from other teams inside the facility. 
    3. Teams are prohibited from conducting combined practices with LNBBA & LSBBA or other associations teams, this includes scrimmages, unless prior approval is given by LN or LS Directors. 
    4. Parents will submit attendance on the Sports Engine App for games and practices.

K -1st GRADE IN HOUSE CLINIC

Parents:  

We have been granted gym space in the elementary schools to run the in-house basketball program. 

The gym space we received is for Saturday. We have been informed that some parents will be allowed clinics on Saturdays. 

This year we will need some parent volunteers to monitor the arrival and exit of all teams to make sure all guidelines will be followed.  

Level Director: TBD

Players will have 5 Saturday  Clinics occurring on 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5 and 12/12.    There will be one session from 10:45 to 11:45 and a second session from noon to 1:00pm each Saturday. Coach Oxton and his staff will run each clinic except one week when the assigned Coaches will run the clinic.

Clinics are at Lakeview Elementary (LVE). Coaches will contact players by email  with specific details.

Cost:       $65 for registration, the registration deadline will be October 16, 2020.

2nd GRADE IN-HOUSE BASKETBALL

Parents:  

We have been granted gym space in the elementary schools to run the in-house basketball program. 

The gym space we received is for Saturday. We have been informed that some parents will be allowed  on Saturdays. 

This year we will need some parent volunteers to monitor the arrival and exit of all teams to make sure all guidelines will be followed.  

Level Director: TBD

TEAMS #1 to #4 will play from 8:15 am to 9:30 am. Teams #5 to #8 will play from 9:45 to 11:00am. 

Players will have 6 Saturday practices starting November 7, 2020  and running through January 9, 2021. Practices are at a Eastview Elementary (EVE). Coaches will contact players with specific details. The gym times will be 8:15 to 9:30 and 9:45 to 11:00am

Cost:    $135 for Registration, the registration deadline will be on October 16, 2020.

3rd Grade In-House Basketball

Parents:  

We have been granted gym space in the elementary schools to run the in-house basketball program. 

The gym space we received is for Monday to Saturday. We have been informed that some parents will be allowed at games and clinics on Saturdays. As of today, parents and siblings will not be allowed in the schools during practices. 

This year we will need some parent volunteers to monitor the arrival and exit of all teams to make sure all guidelines will be followed.  

 

Level Director: TBD

Players should have 8 Saturday games and 1-2 practices per week starting on November 2, 2020  and running through January 30, 2021. Practices are at a Lakeview Elementary (LVE) and games are played at Christina Huddleson Elementary (CHE).  Coaches will contact players by TBD  with specific details.

Cost: $165 for Registration, the registration deadline is October 16, 2020.

4th Grade In-House Basketball

Parents:  

We have been granted gym space in the elementary schools to run the in-house basketball program. 

The gym space we received is for Monday to Saturday. We have been informed that some parents will be allowed at games and clinics on Saturdays. As of today, parents and siblings will not be allowed in the schools during practices. 

This year we will need some parent volunteers to monitor the arrival and exit of all teams to make sure all guidelines will be followed.  

Level Coordinator: TBD

Players will have about 9 Saturday game and 1-2 practices per week starting November 1, 2020 and running through February 6, 2021. There will be an end of the year tournament at Century Middle School.  Practices and games will be at Cherryview elementary school. Games will be 5 on 5 with paid officials.

 

Cost: $175 for Registration, the registration deadline will be on October 16, 2020.

Coaches Training/Certification

Concussion Training is MANDATORY for all coaches and certification will be required at the Coaches Meeting. The following links will lead to free online certification courses:

Choose one course to complete and print out your certificate upon completion. Your certification is good for two consecutive seasons.
